Subject: So Bad It's Almost Good
Subject: So Bad It's Almost Good
But, yeah, it is pretty bad. The sense of history is completely nuts. Beau Brummell in a powdered wig and satin suit?! Nonononono.
The graphics and illos are a big plus in charm. Of course, Google always removes ALL illustrations in their PDFs, even if they have to remove text to do it, so I recommend you download one of the other versions.
The heroine passes as a boy, and becomes a hit as a young man. Naturally (look at the date of publication), the author can't really have any fun with this, as the followers of anime would instantly imagine, so that will disappoint. Of course, except that passing in drag, it is entirely PG13.
It's a cheap romp of its day, with expected (cardboardy) characters but a not entirely expected plot. If you can unplug the literary-critic portion of your brain, and have little background in historical life, in can be fun for a few hours of light romance reading. I have read worse historicity, characters, and plot in Harlequin Historicals of the last decade.
